Children born 2021 or later ski free with an adult. In peak season, children born 2011 to 2020 pay €41 a day and €220 for six days; youths born 2008 to 2010 pay €61.50 and €330. I'm Ursula Auer. My personal highlight: a few runs on the Schmittenhöhe, with the glorious view over Zell am See and the surrounding mountains.
Hotel Der Schütthof in Schüttdorf is about 5 minutes on foot from the valley station of the areitXpress gondola, where the Schmittenhöhe lift company has a ticket office.

Who pays less for a lift pass in 2026/27?
Anyone born in 2008 or later pays less than an adult for the Ski ALPIN CARD, the lift pass for the Schmittenhöhe in Zell am See, the Kitzsteinhorn in Kaprun and the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn. Everyone pays less in the early and late season, and there are further reductions for groups, on Saturdays and at Easter. All prices are for winter 2026/27, as the Schmittenhöhe and Kitzsteinhorn lift companies publish them, in euros including 10% VAT.
Peak season runs from 19 December 2026 to 12 March 2027. The early season, 27 November to 18 December 2026, and the late season, 13 March to 4 April 2027, share the same lower prices. The Schmittenhöhe's own season starts on 4 December 2026.

Do children ski free in Zell am See?
Yes: children born in 2021 or later ski free with an adult and get a free lift pass, called the miniAlpini Card, which needs a photo. Bring the photo and ask for it at the lift company's ticket office.
How much is a child's lift pass in Zell am See?
A child's day pass costs €41 in peak season and €37 in the early and late season, against €82 and €74 for an adult; youths pay €61.50 and €55.50. The child rate is for children born 2011 to 2020 and the youth rate for those born 2008 to 2010, the same on the Schmittenhöhe and the Kitzsteinhorn, each only with proof of age. Day and multi-day passes have just three rates, adult, youth and child, so anyone born in 2007 or earlier pays the adult price. For adult prices on the Schmittenhöhe, see our guide to the Schmittenhöhe ski pass.
Under the ALPIN CARD terms, a pass cannot be passed on, not even within a family.
Junior XPLORE CARD: €15 on Saturdays
With the Junior XPLORE CARD, a day pass costs €15 every Saturday for children and teenagers born 2008 to 2020, from 28 November 2026 to 3 April 2027, and on the Kitzsteinhorn until 1 May 2027. It covers all three Ski ALPIN CARD ski areas and is sold at every ticket office of the ALPIN CARD network.
Do kids ski free at Easter?
Yes. From 20 March to 4 April 2027, all of a family's children born in 2011 or later get a free lift pass when one parent buys a pass for at least 4 days at the same time. The Schmittenhöhe lift company calls it the Easter Special, the Kitzsteinhorn and the tourist board the Easter Bonus. The free passes are only available at the ticket offices on site, with proof of age.
The children's passes work on the Kitzsteinhorn and in the Skicircus too; at the Kitzsteinhorn they are issued for as long as the parent's pass. Easter falls in the late season, so the parent's 4-day pass costs €284.50.
Is there a senior ski pass in Zell am See?
No, not on day or week passes: there is no senior rate, so seniors pay the adult price. Only the Ski ALPIN CARD season pass is cheaper for those born in 1946 or earlier, and only if bought by 8 December 2026: €760 instead of €875; from 9 December 2026 it costs them €1,049, the adult price. The Schmittenhöhe and Kitzsteinhorn lift companies both sell it at these prices, with proof of age and a photo.
Are there group rates for ski passes?
Yes: groups of 20 or more get group prices, valid across the ticket network. For six days in peak season, adults pay €418 instead of €440, youths €313.50 instead of €330 and children €209 instead of €220; in the early and late season, €376 instead of €396, €282 instead of €297 and €188 instead of €198. For every 20 paid passes the group gets one free pass with the same validity.
One person in charge buys the passes for the whole group at the ticket office and hands in the completed Bonus Card. The Bonus Card and the group prices are on the Schmittenhöhe lift company's tickets page.
Groups can also buy a Saturday day pass for the Pinzgau ski areas of the network: €66 for adults and €15 for youths and children in peak season, €59.50 and €15 in the early and late season.
Are there cheap lift passes for beginners?
Yes. For first turns on the Schmittenhöhe, the valley-lift ticket for Schmidolin's Magic Carpet or the Bambilift is enough: €13 for the day from 9 am, €11 until 12.30 pm or from 12.30 pm, or €2.50 a ride, the same for children and adults. Schmidolin's Magic Carpet is at the valley station of the areitXpress gondola. On the Schmittenhöhe's valley lifts, too, children born in 2021 or later ride free with an adult.
For lesson days and the step up to a full pass, see Is Zell am See good for beginners?
Can I buy children's lift passes online?
Yes. Child and youth passes can also be bought online in the Kitzsteinhorn's shop, with spot checks on the slopes, and the Kitzsteinhorn charges the same online as at the ticket office. Carry the children's proof of age when they ski. The Easter Special, group prices and the reduction for people with disabilities are only available at the ticket offices on site, with proof.

Frequently asked questions
What proof do I need for a child's lift pass?
Proof of age for every child and youth price; the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn asks for official photo ID for every age-based price. You also need a photo for the free pass of children born in 2021 or later, for passes of 8 days or more and for every season pass.
Is there a student discount on lift passes?
No. There is no student rate on day or week passes: students pay by year of birth like everyone else, so anyone born in 2007 or earlier pays the adult price. The only young-adult rate is the U25 season pass for those born 2001 to 2007, cheaper only when bought by 8 December 2026: €760 instead of €875. School groups of ten or more have their own prices; a teacher buys the passes.
Is there a family lift pass?
No. There is no family day or multi-day pass. Families pay less through the child and youth rates, the free pass for children born in 2021 or later and the Easter offer from 20 March to 4 April 2027. Season passes have a family bonus: if Ski ALPIN CARDs are bought for the two oldest children in a family (born in 2008 or later), all other children born in 2008 or later get theirs free, with proof of Austrian family allowance or a German child benefit certificate, and photos.
Is there a discount for disabled skiers?
Yes. People with disabilities get a reduction on the Schmittenhöhe and the Kitzsteinhorn, only at the ticket office and with suitable proof. Ask there how much it is.

Working in quality management, I am involved in all sorts of things at the hotel: sometimes at reception, sometimes in the office, and really wherever there is something to be done. For me, Zell am See is not just where I work; it is a place I have grown very fond of, with its mountains, its lake and some truly special moments. My personal highlight: a few runs on the Schmittenhöhe, with the glorious view over Zell am See and the surrounding mountains.
