Hotel Der Schütthof, in Schüttdorf about 5 minutes' walk from the areitXpress valley station, has its own ski hire with 10% off all hire and servicing for guests: skis, boots and poles cost €165 for six or seven days in 2026/27, or €36 for one day, and stay in our camera-monitored ski room. Starting elsewhere, or storing or swapping skis at the lift? Hire there.

Working in quality management, I am involved in all sorts of things at the hotel: sometimes at reception, sometimes in the office, and really wherever there is something to be done. My personal highlight: a few runs on the Schmittenhöhe, with the glorious view over Zell am See and the surrounding mountains.

Where else to hire skis in Zell am See

Bründl Sports and SPORT 2000 both have hire shops by the areitXpress valley station:

  • Bründl Sports AreitXpress, right at the valley station: from 5 December 2026, 8.15 am to 6 pm daily.
  • SPORT 2000 Areit, near the valley station at Flugplatzstraße 16, with free parking outside the shop: in winter, 8.30 am to 12 noon and 2 pm to 5 pm daily.

Bründl Sports and SPORT 2000 also have shops at the Schmittenhöhebahn valley station, Bründl Sports at the cityXpress with HERVIS 20 metres away, and SPORT 2000 on Postplatz in the town centre. Which runs you reach from each valley station is in our guide to skiing in Zell am See.

Schüttdorf is also a good base for the Kitzsteinhorn glacier in Kaprun: the bus stop, Schüttdorf ÖBB-Postbus Garage, is 5 minutes on foot from the hotel, and, as the Kitzsteinhorn lift company lists them, Bründl Sports hires out skis at the MK Maiskogelbahn valley station in the Kaprun Center and at the Alpincenter at 2,450 m, and INTERSPORT Oberschneider in Kaprun centre and at Langwied (1,976 m, at the top of Gletscherjet 1).

Is it cheaper to pre-book ski hire?

At our ski hire there is nothing to pre-book. At the big hire shops by the lifts, booking online is often cheaper than paying in the shop.

Where do you store skis overnight?

At Hotel Der Schütthof, skis and boots stay in the camera-monitored ski room, open from 6 am to 9 pm with your room key card; take helmets up to your room, as they sometimes get mixed up. If you would rather leave your skis at the lift, some of the hire shops at the valley stations have ski depots.

Lift passes and ski lessons at the hotel

You can buy your Ski ALPIN CARD lift pass at the main reception in Hotel Latini next door without queuing, or order it before you arrive and collect it at check-in; the key card carries a €2 deposit. Lift pass prices are on our Zell am See ski pass page, and packages with a 2-day ski pass on selected dates on our page about ski holidays at Hotel Der Schütthof.

You can book ski lessons, in English too, with the hotels' ski instructor, Jürgen from the Skischule Zell am See-Kaprun, who is at the same main reception for any questions. For New Year's week and the February holidays, book lessons in advance; we pass on his contact details.
